Documentary update...2012

Firstly, the Documentary Australia Foundation has approved 'A Vision of Survival' to its foundation. This allows the doco project to be made available to philanthropic funders who wish to give to the project. This is very good news and gives the project much needed momentum.

This is the link http://www.documentaryaustralia.com.au/films/details/1503/a-vision-of-survival

It will also give you more insight into the project.

Well, we made a couple more production trips to Iga Warta in June and November 2011. More interviews and amazing footage as we go deeper into this intriguing story of Iga Warta.

There has ben a lot more development in the documentary. As time has gone on, revelations have surfaced that show Iga Warta is on a knife edge of success and failure. Could a decision from the top of South Australian politics save them - will it happen in time?

I think we only need a couple more months to wrap up production. Which is all very exciting. We have begun compiling all the footage in readiness for a rough edit.

An updated trailer is currently being edited, so stay tuned!

Nepabunna celebrates 80 years

Nepabunna (old mission, now community) which is just down the road from Iga Warta, celebrated its 80th birthday at the end of November 2011. We (Simon Walshe Productions) got the gig from ATLA (Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association) to film and document the weekend event for ATLA.

It was an incredible weekend and a privilege to work on. One of the more significant moments of the event was the unveiling of the the flag representing the Adnyamathanha nation.

Over 16 years ago, the Coulthard siblings gathered to make a decision to see their fathers vision come to fruition. They turned their backs on secure careers and took a leap into the unknown. ‘A Vision of Survival’ is the story of their quest to take destiny into their own hands and the commitment to their culture.

Iga Warta - documentary

In outback south Australia way up in the Northern Filnders Ranges (about 700km north of Adelaide) is Iga Warta. An aboriginal cultural tourism business owned and run by the Coulthard family. They are Adnyamathanha - Rock people. The Adnyamathanha have lived and survived on this land for thousands and thousands of years.
Now, the Coulthard family share their knowledge , culture and home with visitors from around the world. Their history is literally printed on the land around them.
Realising a vision from their father, this family have returned to land they grew up on to create Iga Warta - the place of the native Orange.
This documentary will enter their world. Discovering the history behind Iga Warta, the people and place. How they operate in a remote location, how sustainable is it and what will drive them into the future.
As we peel back the layers, Iga Warta represents far more than a tourist business. It is a statement of the Australian spirit, fighting for your rights - celebrating Aboriginal culture.

'The Sting' - synopsis

It’s 1983 and the end of the summer holidays. Best mates, Justin and Ben get set for one last adventure.

We follow the 2 young boys on their adventure - real and imagined.

They have a simple plan; take shortcuts, dodge danger, hunt wild beasts and ponder outer space.
But, they never planned for the sting of Mother Nature.

From the comfortable home environment, the kid’s parents let them take off into the bush for the night. Reflecting the care free attitude of the times and trust they had in the kids.

This film will combine strong elements of the boy’s imagination to create a theme of magical realism.

The Sting - sometimes mysterious but mostly fun.
